Classical Feng Shui Services for Your Well-Being

Feng Shui (风水) is an ancient Chinese practice studying the relationship between environments and human wellbeing, with systematic methods originating in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE).

We apply these principles in a practical, evidence-based approach—free from religious or superstitious elements—to enhance both the emotional atmosphere and functional aspects of your home.

Our method uses classical Feng Shui techniques (commonly known as Form school, Compass school and Flying Star, a method that carefully considers temporal and spatial factors).

Our Feng Shui Consultation Process

What we need from you:

  • We have a simple intake form for you to fill out. Please include the birthdates of all occupants permanently living at the residence.

  • An accurate magnetic compass reading (not True North) is needed for the home’s sitting direction.

Don’t worry - we will walk you through how to obtain them for virtual consults.

  • An accurate date of construction is important for our analysis.

We will also need dates for any major construction, remodeling or additions to the home.

If you need assistance, you can check the property tax assessor’s office, the city for building permits, or the title company.

  • We will need a to-scale floor plan of your home/space.

Sometimes the builder has provided you with one of these.

If you do not have one, here are some suggestions:

    1. You can draw one (see our instructions page here). There are also a number of apps that make this easy.

    2. We can draft a digital one for you for a fee.

At this time you can purchase 2D plans of your home, if you provide the measurements.

  • For virtual clients, we will need photos of the interior and some of the exterior. A specific list will be provided depending on your chosen service(s).

For in person, we will take photos solely for the purpose of evaluation.

Google Maps and Google Earth are other tools we use to assess your exterior environment.

  • We look at the land forms that are affecting energy flow to your home, including your own landscaping and nearby homes.

  • We look at the layout and flow, paying attention to energy as it enters the home. Does it circulate and then move throughout the home?

  • Together with landform feng shui, we use compass applications: Eight Mansions (East/West) Theory and Xuan Kong (Flying Star).

If we have done a bazi assessment this will be considered, as well.

We then apply a digital luopan (feng shui compass of the 24 Mountains) on your floor plan.

  • Our solutions focus on practical adjustments to layout and space planning.

We implement real elements based on feng shui principles—such as adding plants when the wood element is needed.

  • We have additional packages available for purchase outside of the feng shui consultations. Be sure to check with us to see if you need this.

Then we get to work.

More About Classical Feng Shui - Your Environment

Classical Feng Shui aims to counter, harmonize, or adjust elemental energies within architecture, interior design, and landscape to enhance personal well-being and fortune. This ancient practice recognizes that buildings absorb and retain the energy present during their construction. While the home has a fixed energy, the energy outside the home changes, and it is important to understand these time-based influences acting on the occupants of the home.

Core Principles

By using a magnetic compass and the construction date, Flying Star feng shui reveals both fixed and dynamic energies associated with a specific building. Every structure possesses a fixed energy signature that remains constant unless significant renovations occur.

Time-Based Energy Influences

Three key temporal energies impact a home:

  • The current 20-year period (Period 9, began February 4, 2024)

  • The annual energy cycle

  • The monthly star influences

The annual and monthly star patterns serve as potent activators or catalysts for existing energies. Through careful observation over centuries, practitioners have identified predictable patterns and outcomes from these elemental interactions.

Current Cycle: Period 9

We now exist in Period 9 (began February 4, 2024), governed by the Li trigram, which embodies the fire element and star 9. Evidence of this shift appears in climate patterns and collective human behavior.

Methodological Focus

Flying Star feng shui, the primary methodology employed by Balance By The Bay, accounts for energy's cyclical nature. Both Eight Mansion and Flying Star systems emphasize a building's sitting direction—defined as the back of the structure—with the facing direction directly opposite. Importantly, the facing direction may differ from the front door location.

Foundation for Practice

Proper alignment of these elements establishes the essential framework upon which all other classical feng shui principles build. We use Magnetic North and the sitting direction—not the front door location—as they are fundamental to our analysis.
