FAQs
-
Balance By The Bay practices classical or traditional feng shui for your home, which includes landform, Eight Mansions (East/West Theory) and compass school (Xuan Kong/Flying Stars).
Following these time-tested feng shui and bazi methodologies is the most successful way of assisting our clients.
-
Our feng shui corrections use the five elements (fire*, earth, metal, water, and wood) to harmonize, enhance, or remedy energies of concern.
We also use directional energies and compass directions.
*In place of fire, we will utilize light and color.
-
There is no set style when working with feng shui.
Feng shui design considers what works best with the person’s energy, the home's energy, and your needs for the rooms.
Our goal is to harmonize you with your home, setting you up for feeling the best you can in your space.
Good Feng Shui should utilize interior design principles (balance, rhythm, harmony, contrast, scale, and proportion). We don’t want your home feeling like it has things out of place, for the sake of feng shui.
-
People often seek consultations when they desire change (i.e., want to have children, get married, work from home, or have better success at work).
Sometimes, illness has manifested after moving into a home, and they want to know if the house is beneficial or harmful to them, acting against recovery. Perhaps health challenges seem overwhelming, and you don’t know where to turn.
In some cases, you may like how a house looks but not how it feels. Or, you need some advice to improve the flow for the occupants.
These (and more!) are valid reasons for a feng shui consultation.
We look forward to learning more about your specific circumstances and seeing how we can assist in harmonizing you with your home and enhancing your well-being and success!
-
Many people benefit from getting rid of (donating) unneeded items and ensuring things aren’t blocking positive energy.
Clutter can also be subjective.
We can evaluate the space and offer our thoughts.
Knowing your energy personality and what suits you is crucial to your success. If you appreciate your things and they don’t block good energy, then it’s acceptable. (Remember that some very successful individuals, like Steve Jobs, Mark Twain, and Albert Einstein, had cluttered desks.)
-
No - Each of us is individually affected by the house.
By Design, we are different, and nature ensures that various energies make up a family. Sometimes, a home is great for one and not ideal for the other.
The result is that the one not aligned with the home typically suffers (health issues, job concerns, etc.).
-
Yes, if you are living in a rental or looking to live in a future rental.
In the South Bay, rental properties comprise up to 50% of homes. For these properties, conducting proper energy evaluations becomes even more crucial, as tenants face significant limitations on what modifications they can make to both interior and exterior spaces.
We do not offer feng shui for businesses at this time.
-
Absolutely not.
You can appreciate how your space affects your well-being without it conflicting with your spiritual beliefs. Feng Shui is essentially about environmental design with thousands of years of refinement—it's about creating spaces that support human flourishing, regardless of your religious background.
About the Interior Designer/Feng Shui Practitioner
Like many people, I initially felt uncomfortable exploring metaphysical concepts. My shift from skeptic to advocate came through time, learning with the right teachers and experiencing positive outcomes. Western resistance to Chinese metaphysics often stems from oversimplified interpretations and a desire for quick fixes that miss the profound complexity of these time-tested systems.
As a designer, I've always been interested in how we interact with our spaces. These ancient frameworks offer extraordinary opportunities to enhance well-being through results-driven principles that address our homes in ways that go beyond aesthetics.
My clients typically arrive after exhausting other approaches. Once they experience tangible benefits—deeper sleep, mental clarity, stronger relationships—they understand the true value of these methods. The proof lies in the transformation they feel.

My Feng Shui Journey: Finding Balance in a Challenging Home
My feng shui story began in 2011 after our family moved back to the South Bay from Alexandria, Virginia. We were in a rental while still owning property elsewhere, and honestly, everything felt off from day one.
We were named an expert on Redfin.
